Lagos Life is a life-simulation game set in Lagos, published by GreatCallie International Ltd (Nigeria). This policy describes what the game and our server actually hold. It is written against the code rather than from a template, so if something is not listed here, it is not collected.
For anything on this page, including a copy of what we hold about you or a request to delete it, write to [email protected].
What is collected
| Data | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Username and password | To sign you in, and to hold anything you have bought against an account | Firebase Authentication. Passwords are hashed by Firebase and are never visible to us |
| Email address | Only if you give one — it is optional, and is used to reset your password. A username-only account is keyed on an address on a domain we do not operate | Firebase Authentication |
| Your name and email, if you sign in with Google or Apple | Instead of a password, to identify the same account each time | Firebase Authentication. We receive only your address and display name — never your Google or Apple password, and nothing else from those accounts |
| Your Sim | Needs, money, skills, home, furniture, career, relationships, the day and the ballot. This is the game — it is saved so a lost phone is not a lost life | Our database (Google Cloud Datastore), against your account id, behind a verified sign-in token. A guest's Sim is saved on the device only and never reaches us |
| Your avatar | So the venues can draw the real people standing in them | Firebase Realtime Database, readable by signed-in players |
| Chat messages you send, and read receipts | So other players can talk to you. A room's messages are readable by any signed-in player; a direct message is readable only by its two members | Firebase Realtime Database |
| Presence — your display name, which venue you are in and when you were last seen | So other players can see who is around the city | Firebase Realtime Database. A killed app drops offline rather than lingering |
| A push address for the phone you are on | To send the rent reminder and the other nudge the server decides on. Notifications can be switched off in the app | Our database, associated with your account. Removed when you sign out or turn notifications off. A browser never registers one |
| Top-up balance and payment records — the pack, the amount in kobo, the channel, the reference and who paid | To know what you have paid for, and to be able to account for money actually received | Our database |
| Counts — how many players there are, who is online, visits today and ever | For the public stats page. These are counts, not a profile | Our database |
What is not collected
- Card details. Payments are handled entirely by Paystack in the browser and by Apple or Google in the phone builds. Card numbers never reach Lagos Life.
- Your Google or Apple password, and anything else in those accounts.
- Your location. The game knows which venue your Sim is standing in because you tapped it — never where the phone is.
- Your contacts, your photos, your files. The app asks for none of them.
- Advertising identifiers, and advertising. There is no ad in the game and no ad SDK in the build.
- Third-party analytics. The build ships no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The only numbers we keep are the counts above.
Who else is involved
- Google — Firebase Authentication, the Realtime Database (chat), Firebase Cloud Messaging (push), App Engine and Cloud Datastore (the save). Google may process technical data such as IP addresses to run and protect those services.
- Google and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them, and only if you buy in-app naira on a phone. They tell us whether a purchase is genuine; we tell them nothing about your Sim.
- Paystack — payments, when you buy in-game naira in the browser.
- Cloudflare — serves this website and answers DNS for lagoslife.com.ng. It is a proxy, not a store of your game data.
Your data is not sold, and is not shared with anyone else.
Chat, and other players
Chat is the one place your words reach other people. Treat the rooms as public: any signed-in player can read them. A direct message is readable by its two members and no one else. Do not put anything in a chat you would not want a stranger to read, and do not send anyone else's private information.
Deleting your account
You can do it yourself, in the game: Phone → Settings → Delete account and data. It takes effect immediately, and nothing has to be asked of us first. You can also write to [email protected] and we will do it for you.
What is removed
- Your sign-in account, so the address is free again
- Your saved Sim, its top-up balance and any uncollected balance
- Your avatar, your name, your presence and your push addresses
- The messages you posted in the chat rooms, and the direct conversations that phone knew about
- Your blocked list
What is kept, and why
- Payment records are kept. They are accounting records for money actually received, which we are required to be able to account for. They hold an order number, an amount and a date, with no Sim, no chat and no profile in them.
- A direct conversation the phone no longer had a record of cannot be found from that phone — there is no index of who talks to whom, deliberately. Ask us and we will clear it by hand.
Anything saved on your own device goes when you uninstall the app or clear the browser's site data.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and comparable law elsewhere, you may ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days.
Data is held for as long as you have an account. Lagos Life is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly hold an account for a child.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and a change that matters will be said in the app rather than only here.
